Glenwood Academy students succeed in their academics because of our commitment to small class sizes and our blend of positive instruction and engaging project-based learning. We follow Maryland state recommendations and curriculum decision with the crucial difference being that our students work towards mastery.
Our school provides a fully integrated 1:1 computer program using Chromebooks and Google for Education along with multiple online resources to enhance student learning. All Glenwood Academy students from first grade through high school use technology as part of their day to day learning.
Additionally, we utilize a flipped classroom model where student’s homework is an introductory lecture via video instruction and book work is done during classroom time where the teacher is present to fully address individual learning needs. This model enhances our ability to provide differentiated instruction on an individualized level to our students.
Glenwood Academy curriculum is specifically designed to meet the needs and goals of the individual students. Our school makes a greater academic impact due to small class sizes, our mandatory Study Hall and an individualized instructional approach to learning. Ultimately, this approach will lead to our students achieving their highest potential.
As part of this approach, we have a fully integrated 1:1 computer program with Google Chromebooks, Google for Education, and multiple on-line learning applications. Our students are 21st-century learners and we strive to ensure they have the tools they need to excel in their learning.
To further enhance our small classrooms and differentiated instruction, Glenwood Academy follows a Flipped Classroom model. This concept of providing students the introductory materials in advance allows them to step into the classroom ready to engage in active learning. Focusing on deeper learning and more hands-on approach during classroom time while their subject matter expert, the teacher, is right there to guide them.
High school is an exciting time of life! Glenwood Academy now offers 9th through 12th grade classes in our High School Division. Our program of studies is designed to uniquely suit and help every student grow and develop into the person they want to be.
Traditional lecture-based classes do not work for everyone. Students learn differently, so our teacher’s tailor instruction to suit each child’s unique style and interests. When students are presented with course material at their own pace and learning style, they feel supported, understood and better able to learn. Most of our students are kinesthetic or experimental learners and benefit from our hands-on approach to learning.
Incorporating technology with our 1:1 computer program, Google for Education, and online learning programs, we allow our high school students to master the tools they need to succeed. Our flipped classroom model provides additional individualized time for students in the classroom, while introductory videos are provided as “homework” during study hall. This opens the classroom up for collaboration, inquiry, and learning that cannot be accomplished in the traditional classroom model.
